Feedback about BMWT Education Programming...

Yesterday at the BRWI [Beaver River Watershed Initiative] annual general meeting at the break time one of BRWI members approached me to chat about the education day for the grade 7/8 classes. She is a grandmother of one the female students. Her granddaughter took her for a walk after that day and she said she was a wealth of information regarding the activities and knowledge learned on that day. Thought you would all like to know how important the knowledge about the watershed and nature is and enjoyed by others. Thanks Blanka for organizing this day. Amazing. Debbie

The Silver Creek presentation was AWESOME today. All students were interested in learning about the animals that need awareness brought to their conservation status, and hearing how they could help. I think it really made them reflect on the different ecosystems, especially when the attention was placed on areas that they are familiar with in our Simcoe County neighbourhood. Students were really enthusiastic and asked great questions (and loved the game outside). The presenters were fabulous and they kept the students engaged. Christine Nederend, Grade 7 teacher

Be The Change Film Series

For 16 years, the Watershed Trust has presented the Be the Change Film Series, feature-length films for all ages. BTC is exclusively focused on unique, often independently produced movies with environmental themes that educate and entertain. Season 16 kicks off with The Magnitude of All Things, by Jennifer Abbott. Her documentary draws intimate parallels between the experiences of grief – both personal and planetary. Stories from the frontlines of climate change merge with recollections of her childhood on Georgian Bay. What do these stories have in common? It turns out, everything…

BMWT Volunteers partnered with Grey Sauble Conservation Authority Staff to deliver a program of tree identification, soil layer exploration, development & Riparian preservation discussion, and stream study for all grade 7 & 8s from Beaver Valley Community School.

demonstrate an understanding of biodiversity, its contributions to the stability of natural systems, and its benefits to humans.

Grade 7 | Understanding Life Systems: Interactions in The Environment

Overall Expectations | By the end of Grade 7, students will:

assess the impacts of human activities and technologies on the environment, and evaluate ways of controlling these impacts;
investigate interactions within the environment, and identify factors that affect the balance between different components of an ecosystem;
demonstrate an understanding of interactions between and among biotic and abiotic elements in the environment.

Grade 8 | Understanding Earth and Space Systems: Water Systems

Overall Expectations | By the end of Grade 8, students will:

assess the impact of human activities and technologies on the sustainability of water resources;
investigate factors that affect local water quality;
demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of the earth’s water systems and the influence of water systems on a specific region.
