Profile of Wendy Smeh, New WAG (Watershed Action Group) Member
Originally from Georgetown, Wendy Smeh has called Collingwood home for the last 14 years. She lives here with her husband and two children, Sophia, 5, and Milan, 3. Wendy came to Collingwood to work as a student at the Ainley Group, a local engineering firm, and has been with the firm ever since. Wendy now manages design and construction administration projects and has also worked on Municipal Class Environmental Assessments as well as other projects.
Wendy played an active role in environmental clubs in her younger years, which helped her to choose her course of study. She received a diploma in Environmental Technology from Sir Sandford Fleming College. After spending time in the City of Toronto’s Forestry Department, Wendy went back to school and obtained a Bachelor of Applied Environmental Management from Lakeland College in Alberta. During her time at school Wendy was particularly interested in wetland and watershed studies.
Wendy enjoys all the beauty that this area has to offer, including hiking and listening for frog calls with her two young children. Wendy has taken part in community clean-ups and is a big supporter of the ‘pick up a piece’ programs. Wendy also is a member of the executive committee at the local Toastmasters Club. In her free time Wendy enjoys CrossFit, yoga, gardening and spending time on the water.
Wendy hopes that by volunteering with BMWTF, she will help to contribute to the better health of the local watersheds and the shoreline of Georgian Bay. Wendy has a strong appreciation for the environment and would like to help protect and preserve the local environment and water quality in this area.
