In a significant move to enhance environmental protection and sustainability efforts in South Georgian Bay, we are excited to announce that the Friends of Silver Creek (FoSC) will merge with the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust (BMWT) effective immediately. This strategic alliance brings into the fold, the grassroots actions and commitment of the FoSC to further contribute to the environmental preservation of natural assets including not only the Silver Creek Wetland, but other threatened areas in South Georgian Bay.
By joining the BMWT, the FoSC aim to further amplify its awareness and advocacy efforts and broaden the understanding of the scope of conservation programs of the BMWT. Together, we will work more effectively to protect ecologically significant lands, advance climate resilience, and engage communities in impactful stewardship.
“By uniting our resources and shared vision, we’re better positioned to address the environmental challenges within South Georgian Bay together,” said Carl Michener, Chair of the Board, BMWT.
“The FoSC look forward to continuing to build advocacy for wetlands protection and security and to establish greater understanding of the value of wetlands and their ecosystems through awareness and education programs,” said Katherine Holmes, Chair FOSC. “We are honoured to join the BMWT which will not only expand our reach but deepen our impact.”
Effective immediately, the FoSC will continue with its work to stop development of the last remaining Provincially Significant Wetland in South Georgian Bay while expanding awareness of BMWT programs, educational programs and increase awareness of the BMWT and its work.
